Today my memories are of my Grandparents old farmhouse and of Grandma's kitchen. The kitchen was about the biggest room in the 4 room house, whenever myself or my brother and sisters would visit separately it was one on one time with grandma and grandpa. When you first come into the house thru the mud room you entered the kitchen and the smells of something delicious would be in the air, it could be the smell of fresh baked bread or a favorite lemon cake or dinner, (lunch to others), in my family it was breakfast, dinner and supper. Back to the kitchen and grandma's cooking. Sundays were when we had the big dinner of the week, right after church. Grandma would have prepped all that she could in advance with only a little left to fix. I remember one Sunday we were going to have chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and gravy and probably fresh canned green beans or maybe corn on the cob right out of their garden and strawberry shortcake for dessert if it was the right time of summer when fruits and vegetables were ready for harvest.
